House Hunt

Phew . . . well, this Wednesday's Haiku is barely making it into the mix - and I can't vouch for the quality of anything in this post, ha! We just got back tonight from a trip to our future home of Sacramento, California. To say I am exhausted is something of an understatement! The trip was absolutely wonderful, just jam-packed with trying to find a home, get to know the area, etc. etc.

Emotionally, I'm also feeling quite on edge. I'm so excited about our future move, but the reality of what that means continues to creep ever-closer, and now at a rapid pace. Sometimes it takes my breath away, like my legs have been knocked out from underneath me. There's no doubt I've got some tough days ahead . . . but, for now, I'm just going to focus on getting some rest tonight, back home in my own bed--and back with our sweet pups!

So, there you go - let me type this up before I fall asleep at the computer . . . :-)

East coast, west coast fly,

Future home of sunshine bright--

Change is in the air.

Mr. Vick

Hello readers! I hope you're having a good week - mine is creeping by slowly, probably because I'm so excited to be heading to my future home of Sacramento in a few days!! We're going to look at houses & apartments, and just generally get a feel for the area. Also, we're going to make some time to explore Sonoma and all its cute shops and restaurants (and perhaps a winery . . . or two!). I'm so excited to go explore my new home and see what it's like! Pretty crazy to think that I'm about to move so far away to a city I've never even visited yet.

On a completely separate note, this week's Haiku was inspired by my sweet older pup, Vick. He is just the sweetest dog ever. Yes, our little girl Izzie is a mess and so cute and keeps us laughing all the time, but I have a special place in my heart for my little man Vick.

See, he's that pup we got right after we got married--that all-important first step in married life of buying a dog together. And he loves his mama--he's a total mama's boy, and I love it :-). He's also been there every step of the way for me: every up and down in our marriage, every trial and tribulation of law school. The way Vick senses emotion in me is almost human-like. When I'm upset, wild horses couldn't tear him away from my side. He is a precious pup, a true gift in my life.

So, this week's Haiku is dedicated to him--enjoy! :-)

Mr. Vick

Eyes from human mold,

Gentle licker of my tears--

Sweet friend, from the start.

All Things

Hello readers, it's that time again - another Wednesday! I've found myself very prepared each week up until now, but this week has kind of snuck up on me. Like all things lately, I feel like I'm in a time warp/wind tunnel. I'm incapable of making life slow down.

So, with today's Haiku, I don't feel like sharing too much of the back story. Let's just say I'm running into some issues at work and let that be enough. It's frustrating, but the LORD has been using it to continue teaching me that He works ALL things for our good. No evil or malicious plan against us can stand (see Isaiah 54:17)--and if someone is "successful" in his or her assault, it's only because God allowed it for our ultimate best (even when we don't understand why!).

It's easy to see how God uses the happy and positive things in life for our good, but even the struggles and trials (maybe especially those!) He is able to ultimately weave for our good and His glory. So today I'm resting in the truth of Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

So with that, here's today's poem - I hope you had a very blessed Easter celebration this past weekend!

All Things

Green monster rises--

Brick wall, to do his bidding.

All things work for good.

Full Circle

Hello readers, and happy April! Spring has sprung, as they say, and I couldn't be happier about the warm weather, sunshine, and the approaching Easter celebration. Love this time of year!

Lately I've been thinking about how similar beginnings and endings can be--how many odd, even eerie, similarities they share. The birth/death cycle is probably the most illustrative (and depressing!) example, but I've been thinking about this in terms of my job.

I only have a few months left, and as much as I want to continue working hard and accomplishing a lot, things are just naturally winding and slowing down. I'm not a fan of that feeling, but what can you do? Anyways, one day last week I looked up and realized, hmm, this feels quite similar to my first few weeks here--quiet, slow, still. It's a sad feeling when you realize that you've probably completed your best days at a job--that your time has peaked and now you're simply writing the conclusion. I am excited about what's ahead, and my goal is to not allow the "senioritis" to overtake my mind, but instead finish strong. But I'll be honest, it isn't always easy!

So, with that background in mind, here's today's poem - enjoy!

As the clock winds down,

The end--like the beginning--

Quiet as a mouse.
